Junior Planner



Job description


Based in our Manchester, UK, office, your primary purpose will be to support the Creative Planner in developing marketing and communication strategies for our broad range of clients.


We work with companies at the forefront of science innovations in the UK and globally. This ranges from exciting branding and positioning projects for start-ups with great creative flexibility, to challenging communication plans for global companies with established brands.


As a Junior Planner you will help to represent the voice of the consumer in the agency. You will work with our clients’ marketing teams to research their market and understand their consumers. You will work closely with the account management team to ensure that any work we produce is aligned with the customer’s business goals. You will also collaborate with the creative and content teams to help them produce inspiring, creative campaigns, and refined PR and digital strategies for our clients. You will uphold the Notch values and commitment to our clients in everything you do.


Training will be provided on the job and, depending on your competencies, there may be further scope to develop skills in marketing strategy and/or campaign management.



Person specification


Essential skills

As a Junior Planner, you need to have a degree in marketing. You should have excellent listening and communication skills, as well as research skills. You should show strict attention to detail and a high standard of written English. You must have expertise in developing social media and digital strategies. You should also be passionate about communicating scientific discoveries and technologies to diverse audiences.


This role requires the ability to understand and learn quickly about diverse scientific areas covering a broad spectrum of the sciences. You will be supported by our team of scientists with broad scientific expertise to help you to understand the technical information. As a member of a small and busy team, you should also be willing to help out on any other tasks as required, and be comfortable working on several projects simultaneously.


Desirable skills

Ideally, you should have some digital marketing and social media experience. You should be creative and curious, and have great initiative, self-motivation and organisational skills. You should have expertise in SEO and have some basic knowledge of coding, but this is not essential.



Principal tasks


  • Working with clients to fully understand their business objectives, target markets, and communications strategy
  • Researching, learning, analysing and extracting findings from consumer, brand and market research, to support the preparation of brand communication strategies and creative briefs
  • Researching and learning about clients' and their competitors’ technologies, products and services
  • Working with agency colleagues to brainstorm and plan campaign ideas
  • Supporting the creative development process, including briefing and enthusing creative teams
  • Keeping up-to-date with market trends and developments in the wider advertising and communications industry
  • Supporting the new business team to extend our portfolio of clients

Scientific Writer - Uppsala



Job description


Based in our Uppsala office, your primary purpose will be to write and edit content for our clients’ projects, ranging from scientific feature articles, to blogs, websites, press releases, brochures, advertisements, presentations and social media posts.


We work with clients across the life sciences, from laboratory equipment and reagents providers, to biotech, clinical trials companies, and fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals manufacturers. You will work with our teams to provide materials for several of our client accounts as well as for our quarterly magazine. You will also liaise with trade press editors, working on PR campaigns, press release distribution and attending industry events. You will uphold the Notch values and commitment to our clients in everything you do.


Training will be provided on the job and, depending on your competencies, there may be further scope to develop skills in client account management, marketing strategy and/or campaign management.



Person specification


Essential skills

As a scientific writer, you need to have a post-graduate degree in a life sciences-related subject. You should have excellent communication skills, including a high standard of written English and strict attention to detail. You should also be passionate about communicating scientific discoveries and technologies to diverse audiences.


You must be comfortable with researching and understanding academic science papers, and also have experience in using social media and other web-based communications channels. This role requires the ability to learn quickly about diverse scientific areas covering a broad spectrum of the life sciences, and likely extending beyond your existing specialist knowledge. As a member of a small and busy team, you should also be willing to help out on other tasks as required, and be comfortable working on several projects simultaneously.


Desirable skills

Ideally, you should have some published scientific papers or articles. Any marketing, branding or PR experience would be an advantage, but is not essential. Competency in other European languages would be beneficial. You should also have great initiative, self- motivation and organisational skills



Principal tasks


  • Researching, editing and writing press releases, web content and articles
  • Editing and writing other campaign materials as required
  • Researching and learning about clients’ and their competitors’ technologies, products and services
  • Working with agency colleagues to brainstorm and plan campaign ideas
  • Inputting to Notch and clients’ social media strategies
  • Collating media coverage for PR accounts and reporting back to clients

In his spare time, Jordan is a qualified level 4 football referee and is a big football fan. He enjoys watching the latest films and TV series, particularly the comic book genre.

Emily Walsh

Emily is a Biomedical Sciences Undergraduate currently completing a year in industry as part of Notch’s placement scheme with the University of Manchester. Emily’s primary roles at Notch include being one of our market analysts and the resident Photoshop expert. In her spare time, Emily loves socialising with friends but is also partial to a quiet night in watching some unusual TV, her favourites include Location, Location, Location and 24 Hours in A&E. Coming from London, Emily enjoys spending her weekends exploring the leafy areas of the North West, particularly the Peak District.
